Don’t stress the Artist Dates!
When I worked through The Artist's Way, Artist Dates became one of my favorite parts of my week, but I also know how intimidating and awkward they can be at first. Having to do them alone was one of my biggest worries, but I promise it gets easier. Which is why I included some ideas in this list of dates you can do from the comfort of your own home.
What is an Artist Date?
An Artist Date comes from the book, The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron. The book is a 12 week course designed to spark the creativity within each of us, especially when we’ve been in a creative rut. The Artist Date is a recommendation from the book to treat your inner artist once a week with a solitary and fun experience. Basically, you’re supposed to take your inner artist out on a date. Julia Cameron typically recommends this date be something visually stimulating to fill your creative well, but really the concept is open for interpretation and flexibile for each individual and their needs.
This ambiguity can sometimes lead to uncertainty when planning your weekly Artist Date. When you’re working so hard to revitalize your creative spark, you might put a lot of pressure on doing the “right” Artist Date. There’s really no “right” way to do the Artist Dates, but I hope my extensive list below can help relieve some of that pressure or confusion.
